Um barco entre os olhos
Nesta 15a edição da Strangloscope reivindicamos o tema um barco entre os olhos como aproximação do evento cotidiano da cidade de Itajaí mais evocador da sensibilidade áudio visual de sua população. Itajaí é uma cidade portuária que recebe grandes navios de carga e de turismo com altura maior do que muitas de suas edificações. Navios que ocupam mais da metade do rio que conduz do mar ao porto da cidade e que escondem a cidade de Navegantes, situada na margem em frente. Essa é uma característica que toma o imaginário da população. O som da entrada e saída dos navios, os volumes imensos das embarcações e suas cargas, os containers coloridos, as luzes que piscam emoldurando esses grandes objetos, imagem em movimento ao longo do rio, frente aos olhos, entre margens. Poderíamos, inclusive, afirmar sua potencialidade de imagem expandida, seu devir cinema.
Estes sons e imagens, que extrapolam o momento do acontecimento, encontram nos sonhos, nas lembranças, na memória novas atualizações de sua carga sensível. Mesmo quando não há navios no rio Itajaí saindo ou entrando para o porto, por vezes, vemos as embarcações, escutamos seus sons de apito largo penetrando nossos ouvidos acostumados a aguardar estes eventos cada vez mais constantes.
Mas quais seriam as relações entre este cenário e o cinema experimental?
O Cinema Experimental se vale tanto do que se vê quanto do que se imagina ver. Ele, por muitas vezes, habita esse intervalo. O mesmo sucede com o que se ouve ou o que se imagina ouvir, pois até quando o filme não tem som, muitas vezes imaginamos escutar seus ruídos. Ou quando só há som e algumas poucas luzes e sombras formamos imagens por associação.. Intervalos entre sons e imagens se ressignificam e criam as paisagens sonoras e/ou imagéticas. O som cria imagem, a imagem cria som. Nessa expansão de sentidos naufragamos. O filme experimental navega esse espaço entre as vagas.
O barco é mais uma figura de linguagem, uma metáfora, uma analogia, do que uma imagem figurativa. A existência ou não do barco (figura e seus contornos) é uma escolha e uma perda.
O sensorial na composição do cinema experimental convoca a existência de um sujeito extra campo que cria junto com o artista.
O cinema experimental é cinema expandido. Toma o corpo por inteiro. Faz com que essa sensação inclua os presentes na obra. Todos embarcamos nesse barco, nave, experimentação sensível e nos lançamos a essa aventura que nos faz a cada um mais presentes no agora. Experiência que é vivida junto, partilhada, gera o grupo, expande o senso de comunidade.
Um barco entre os olhos é a imagem que criamos para evocar essa experiência da ordem do sensível, ao mesmo tempo individual e coletiva. Um convite para que todos se permitam o mergulho e a sensação de perda referencial.
As cartas de navegação estão rotas, praticamente invisíveis a olho nu. Cartografias à deriva do próprio desejo, as palavras-restos, menos do indicar caminhos, também naufragam, tomadas pelo balanço das ondas.

A Boat Between the Eyes
In this 15th edition of Strangloscope, we claim the theme a boat between the eyes as a way of approaching the most evocative everyday event of the city of Itajaí in relation to the audiovisual sensibility of its population. Itajaí is a port city that receives massive cargo and cruise ships, taller than many of its buildings. Ships that occupy more than half the width of the river connecting the sea to the city’s port and that conceal the neighboring city of Navegantes, located on the opposite shore. This is a striking feature that inhabits the collective imagination. The sound of ships entering and leaving, their immense volumes and cargo, the colorful containers, the blinking lights framing these large objects—images in motion along the river, before our eyes, between the shores. We could even say they possess the potential of an expanded image, a becoming-cinema.
These sounds and images, which extend far beyond the moment of the event, find new resonances in dreams, memories, and recollections. Even when there are no ships entering or leaving the Itajaí River, we sometimes see them, hear their deep whistles piercing our ears—ears now trained to expect these increasingly frequent occurrences.
But what is the relationship between this setting and experimental cinema?
Experimental cinema thrives as much on what is seen as on what is imagined. Often, it inhabits that very interval. The same is true for sound: what we hear or imagine we hear, since even in silent films we often “hear” their noises. Or when there is only sound and a few flickers of light and shadow, we build images through association. Intervals between sound and image are redefined, creating new sonic and/or visual landscapes. Sound creates image, image creates sound. In this expansion of perception, we drift. Experimental film sails through this space between waves.
The boat is more a figure of speech, a metaphor, an analogy, than a literal image. Its presence or absence (as figure and contour) is both a choice and a loss.
The sensorial nature of experimental film calls forth the existence of an off-screen subject who creates alongside the artist.
Experimental cinema is expanded cinema. It engages the entire body. It draws the viewer in and makes them part of the experience. We all board this boat, this vessel of sensitive experimentation, launching into an adventure that draws each of us more fully into the present. A shared, lived experience that brings forth a collective, expanding the sense of community.
A boat between the eyes is the image we offer to evoke this experience rooted in the realm of the sensitive—at once individual and collective. An invitation to immerse oneself, to surrender to the sensation of referential loss.
The navigation charts are torn, almost invisible to the naked eye. Cartographies adrift in their own desire. Words-as-remains no longer point the way—they too drift, overtaken by the swell of the waves.
